Added Google Adsense
Sounds like a cool thing ! If you click on one of the ads, I am suppose to get some cash ... One day. I am curious to see how this works. If you're curious too, just click one the ads and I'll post a message if I ever get something out of it. (I might give a party for all visitors ...)

Friday Thoughts
It's Friday evening ! Going for a merited week end (At least I think so).
For those fighting with deadlines for documents to be delivered on Fridays ( even though nobody is going to read them before Monday morning ) , I'd follow a recommandation from Ivar Jakobsen (founder of the RUP) :
You can always deliver a document on time ... just write a little less !
For software it's more difficult because there it will not go unnoticed.

I picked that sentence up on a Dilbert website but I think it's particularly true in an IT environment.
My day today ...Management...Siedler
I have two stories about today really,
The first is about a team meeting with one of our senior managers, he came along to answer any questions we all could have on the newly introduced development process (Rational Unified Process - I'll write some stories about this later - ) and the reorg that we are undergoing right now.
The lesson I learn from listening to him is that in a similar case when poeple ask questions that are sometimes provocative or maybe awkward, you should listen carefully to the question and before answering reformulate the question in a way that makes it easy/easier to answer. You can as well afford not to answer exactly to the question that was asked as poeple are very unlikely to go into too much discussion (you are the boss after all).
As long as you show enough self-confidence you can almost say anything you want - just make sure to be vague enough so everybody can interprete what you said in a way that he likes.
This certainly requires a lot of training and practice but is very effective. - Any body knows some tricks or has training tips, books on these techniques ? -
What you should not forget is that most poeple can't be fooled too much and even though you leave the room with the feeling to have answered all questions and left everybody happy the strategy does not go unnoticed...
The second story of the day will be shorter :
With some co-workers we've taken the habit to play a board game called "Siedler von Catan" (Settlers) in my office once in a while. Tonight was one of those nights. We get together after work, get some beers, order pizzas and play 2 rounds.
Todays ones were very frustrating for me as I lost both of them with a terrifying bad luck with the dice.
I wish you all a good night...

Introduction to this blog - Reader warning -
Hi all,
Thanks for reading my thoughts on corporate life. I do not pretend to be another Scott Adams but sometimes at work I feel like in Dilbert cartoon. To tell the truth I sometimes would even prefer to be in one.
In this blog I will try to share some useful - or painful - experiences with youand hope to get some back.
I currently work as an IT contractor for a mobile telecommunications operator in Germany. I've been around there for some years now and seen a lot of amazing things from aborted projects to outsourcing attempts, funny poeple, interesting poeple, poeple you can learn from positively but as well negatively.
This will certainly be away to get rid of my frustration in many cases. You can help me here with any sort of comments - be supportive or destructive I'll appreciate and try to reply.-
To finish here some more information about me :
I am french, 32 (almost 33 ) married with a daughter (5). The whole family lives in Münich.
I work in IT, the main areas are Billing and Network provisioning for telecommunication operators. This involves products like Kenan/BP and Kenan/OM, Comptel Instant Link, AMD and technologies like C/C++,Java, J2EE, Oracle, Sybase, UNIX, Web Servers
I like technology in every sense, sport (Cycling, Skiing, Jogging, Swimming, Football,..) , going out with friends, board games, travelling.
